Oil/canvas, 50 x 70,5 cm, r. u. sign. G. West and indistinctly dat. probably 1954. - German marine and landscape painter. West studied at the HfBK after the war. He worked first as an art teacher, then as a restorer and sailor, before returning to teaching. Naval motifs have been essential to his work ever since. His son is Ole West, also active as a marine painter.
