Louis XIII style cabinet; France, 18th century. Carved and ebonised wood. One of the legs is missing, the interior marquetry and the exterior veneer are missing. It has keys and a secret drawer. Measurements: 191 x 57 x 161 cm; 50 x 153 cm. Cabinet of large dimensions made of ebonised wood. The piece of furniture is structured in two sections, a lower one that starts with four ball-shaped legs, flattened at the base, and an upper structure. In the lower section, the piece is divided into two doors that stand out for their profuse carved decoration. This is made up of vegetal motifs contained in geometric perimeter sections, which frame an enormous scroll with a figurative scene. Both doors have the same decoration, except for the central image, which, despite their similarities, differs in the group of figures. Above both doors, which feature a gilt lock with a vegetal structure, there are two small drawers with the same lock, as well as a decoration similar to that on the outside of the lower doors. Above the drawers, a large moulding with a grooved moulding leads to the upper part of the cabinet. In this area, the design consists of three rows and several sections that subdivide the space. The piece is notable for its symmetry, with the sides presenting an identical design consisting of three upper drawers and two lower ones with matching decoration. In the central street, however, only two drawers can be seen on the outside, while the centre is dominated by two small doors, which give way to an interior richly decorated with a geometric-vegetable pattern formed with marquetry. The interior also has more storage space. Finally, the upper structure is finished off with a cornice made up of two drawers. It is worth noting that all the drawers and doors in the upper area have locks, except for one drawer, located in the upper area of the unit, in the lower part of the central street. These locks, whose design is inspired by classical motifs, stand out not only for their physiognomy, but also for the contrast of the golden colour on the black surface of the cabinet.
