Italian school; early 18th century. "Putti with still life of flowers". Oil on canvas. Re-coloured. It has a carved and gilded wooden frame from the 20th century. Measurements: 82 x 100 cm; 105 x 123 cm (frame). In this work of the Italian school, the author presents us an image with a little angel and a vase that covers almost all the pictorial surface. The artist resolves the scene with a dynamic and markedly scenographic character, with classical subject matter and expressiveness. As has already been mentioned, the artist arranges both the little angel and the vase in the foreground. On a flat surface that is barely visible and which is largely covered by the presence of the main elements that make up the scene. The scene is defined by a detailed attention to the qualities of the different materials. In an indeterminate background, as it cannot be seen whether it is an exterior or interior, on the inner left of the angel, a golden container can be seen, which may be the vase that contained or will contain the flowers and which is now completely empty, while on the right there is a glass container that seems to contain water inside it. All the flowers are arranged diagonally in the work, which lends great dynamism to the scene. The "putto" is an element borrowed from Roman iconography, which in the Baroque period came to be considered the representation of the omnipresence of God. In Antiquity they were related to the Roman genii and the Greek daemons, and were frequent in artistic representations related to Dionysus. From the Renaissance onwards, this Bacchic sense of the "putto" was taken up again, but a Christian interpretation prevailed. Thus, artists depicted them as musical angels in religious scenes and as companions of the classical gods in mythological scenes. However, despite their symbolic meanings, putti are above all used as decorative elements, associated with peace, prosperity, joy and leisure. Dimensions 82 x 100 cm; 105 x 123 cm (frame).
