Flemish school, late 18th century. "Still life of hunting in an interior. Oil on canvas. Engatillada. Size: 34 x 47 cm; 44,5 x 55,5 cm (frame). Flemish Baroque still life organized in three planes, with different birds placed on a table covered by fabrics of different textures. In the background we can see the interior of a room, which is as symmetrical as can be seen from the arrangement of the paintings.During the 18th century in Flanders there was a growing demand for paintings to decorate the houses of the bourgeoisie. Apart from portraits and large canvases with religious, historical or mythological themes, artists specialised, painting medium-sized works that gradually increased in format, with still lifes, animals, landscapes and genre scenes. Paintings reproducing collectors' cabinets of the period are explicit in this respect, to the point of giving rise to a new, independent genre of painting. Undoubtedly, the future of this painting would have been different without Rubens, whose art revolutionised the artistic panorama of Flanders by introducing a new, fully Baroque approach and bringing a sense of unity and opulent sumptuousness to the orderly and encyclopaedic display of his countrymen's precious depictions. The specialists worked in a new line, adding an accessory object, a landscape or a decorative background to their compositions, either in their own way or subordinate to his work. Dimensions 34 x 47 cm; 44.5 x 55.5 cm (frame).
