This type of furniture was considered for centuries the most luxurious and valuable piece of furniture, kept in all collections and noble houses despite changes in fashion, and finally revalued in the 19th century within the context of historicism. Goa today is one of the 29 states that, together with the seven Union Territories, form the Republic of India. However, the territory was colonised by the Portuguese in the 16th century, which led to a great deal of trade, with the Portuguese calling Goa the Golden City, which was colonised by the British in the 19th century.
