Phoenician pendant in gold, of trapezoidal structure, decorated in the front part with a sphinx of extended wings, in relief, an element that indicates the proximity between the Phoenician and the Persian culture. This piece comes from the city of Cádiz Espera. The gold and silver work constitutes one of the most outstanding sets of the funerary offerings found in the necropolis of Cádiz. The large number of pieces and the common features that characterize it has led to raise the existence of local workshops whose main activity was developed between the late seventh century BC and mid V BC, although its survival is much broader. They are pieces of gold or gold and silver alloys, made with techniques of lamination, filigree and granulated. Among the decorative themes, those of oriental origin predominate, especially Egyptian, with vegetal and anthropomorphic motifs, most of them of religious significance. The Phoenicians were an important naval power in Antiquity, thanks to their solid vessels of resistant wood and large size. These same vessels allowed them a trade of great importance both for them and for many cultures, providing them with techniques and materials from other areas outside their own in these exchanges.
