Pair of sconces. Ancient Egypt, ca. 500 BC. Linen, stucco and gold leaf. Provenance: Private collection, Holland, acquired in the 1980s. In good condition. Measurements: 3.1 cm and 7 cm (length), respectively. Pair of appliqués with the representation in relief of winged beings. Due to its morphological characteristics, the smaller applique would correspond to the representation of the vulture goddess Nekhbet. With her wings outstretched, the vulture goddess was considered the protector of the royalty of Upper Egypt; the larger applique represents Isis with her wings outstretched. Isis is revered in Ancient Egypt as the queen and goddess of all gods. Dimensions 3.1 cm and 7 cm (length), respectively.
