QUAGLIO,LORENZO II (1793-1869) "Hohenschangau" Watercolour on wove paper (papier vélin), signed and dated 1863, HxW: ca. 25/34 cm. Normal signs of age, frame, HxW: 39/48 cm. The present watercolour is a later version of the painting by Lorenzo Quaglio from 1856, the foreground shows a couple facing back towards the viewer, resting at this vantage point dressed entirely in traditional costume, the couple observes a woman sitting on a bench some distance away, gazing lovingly towards her two children, they are Queen Marie of Bavaria and her sons, the heir to the throne Ludwig and his brother Otto, who also seem to be resting on their walk, looking down on Hohenschwangau.
