A stately crown sofa from the Wilhelminian period, made by master cabinetmaker Julius Groschkus, circa 1900, fine walnut, solid and veneered, magnificent top with central, coffered carving with knight symbols, pretty baluster columns, ornamented flanks, small decorative balustrade, diamonds, ornamental knobs. At the sides of the backrest dreamlike large baluster columns with ionic capitals, armrests with carved, stylised lion heads, seat and backrest of elaborately pressed leather with floral ornamentation and central coat of arms (lion on the right, initials CG on the left). The identical coat of arms is also found in the top of the sofa and suggests a princely origin. Height 178 x 200 x 88 cm, seat height 54 cm. Good condition with age-related signs of wear.
