Jin Cheng (1878-1926) attr. China, datiert 1923 99,8 x 51,4 cm Red Plum Blossoms and Rock. Hanging Scroll, ink and colors on paper. Seven word poem and signature by the artist: „In the early winter of the guihai-year (1923), Jin Cheng from Wuxing.“ Three seals by the artist: „ Gongbei“, “Jin Gongbo”, “Jin Cheng”. Three collector’s seals: „Bote“ (Poetter), “Siegel des Guo Ruping” (Guo Ruping yin), “Chun xiao zi xin”. Jin Cheng, style names Gongbo and Gongbei, was born in Peking to a wealthy family of officials. From 1902 to 1905 he studied law in London and back in China became Secretary of State Affairs and founder of the exhibition of the Palace Collections (Guwu chenlie suo), the first public museum of China. In Peking he became the leading figure of the painters in the traditionalist style and advocated the studying of old masters. Many of his paintings are brilliant imitations of old masterworks in the Palace Collection. Old Berlin private collection, formerly collection Helmut Poetter, Frankfurt - Jin Cheng, style names Gongbo and Gongbei, was born in Peking to a wealthy family of officials.
