IMPOSING LEATHER HUNTING BAG Tibet, ca. 15th ct. 43 x 29 x 19 cm Leather, pigments, angular iron fittings, iron latches on the front, iron lugs on the sides for a carrying strap. Judging by the painted motifs, it is probably a bag used for hunting. The main motif on the front shows a rider on a dun horse with a red plume on his head and a green saddle on his back. The rider carries a sword at his side, and aims backwards with bow and arrow at an attacking snow lion. The hunter is accompanied by a running hunting dog chasing two hares, and a bird of prey and a hawk trying to seize the fleeing hares. The front is framed by a painted frieze filled with countless yellow hares lined upright. The same friezes also frame the other surfaces. Old South German private collection, assembled prior 1990 Wear, traces of age
