AN EARLY FIVE-PRONGED IRON VAJRA Tibet, ca, 11th ct. L. 22 cm This vajra consists of several symbolic parts. The centre is formed by a pearl enclosed by lotus leaves in opposite directions. Above it, four human skulls are arranged in both directions, crowned by eight lotus leaves. Macara heads protrude from the two flattened bases above the lotus leaves, from which the four notched clasps emerge, each connected to the central axis, which suggests ritual applications for peaceful deities. Within each of the clasps is a disc. A square crown in the shape of a bud (?) forms the end. Iron, with minimal remains of gold. From the estate of the Thomas Marcotty (1930-2005) Collection Wear, partly corroded
