Beautifully cast model with braided stem depicting Saint George and the Dragon. Note: Saint George (died 303 CE) tamed a dragon and is said to have killed it as well. This was due to villagers sacrificing cattle and trinkets to the dragon, but when these provisions ran out, they turned to human sacrifice. This was normal for the villagers at the time until a princess was chosen as the sacrifice. The ''holy'' Saint George would therefore have killed the dragon. The Netherlands, Schoonhoven, J. Niekerk, 1975, hallmarks: Lion, Minerva, maker's mark, p - signs of use. 44 grams, 835/1000. dim. L 16.9 cm. Estimated: € 25 - € 70.
