Opaline coloured oval milk glass plaque inset with a fine micro-mosaic depiction of the ruins of the Ponte d'Augusto in Narni. In a chased gold surround with a braid pattern border. After an engraving by Georg Abraham Hackert (Prenzlau 1755 - 1805 Florence). The ruins of the bridge over the river Nera in Umbria, built under Emperor Augustus around 27 BC, were one of the sights of the classic Grand Tour trips to Rome. Dimensions 4.0 x 6.5 cm. Weight 24.84 g. Artist or Maker Rome, early 19th C., possibly English mount. Medium The brooch pin silver gilt. Condition Report The safety clasp a later addition. The surround with some minor dents.
