RARE GILT BRONZE FIGURE OF PADMAPANI, NORTHEAST INDIA, 12TH CENTURY, the deity standing with the right arm raised in abhayamudra, the left hand partially missing, the body embellished with beaded jewellery, secured with a sash at the waist, the face rendered with a gentle countenance. The main body of the statue has a prominent posture and is beautifully decorated. The damages to the statue are possibly made during the Islamic Turkic invasion of the Northeast Indian subcontinent at the end of the 12th century. This Bodhisattva shows meticulous craftsmanship and a natural and graceful posture. Based on the perspective of facial features and carving techniques, it resembles the style of Northeast India around the 12th century. Dimension: 21 5/8 inches High (55cm).
