Medal has facing bust of Nansen with "Landed in New York" to the left and 'October 23, 1897' to the right. Edge has Copyright 1897 by V.D. Brenner. This one is 15.8 grams heavier than the bronze only version. X-Ray Flourence testing shows 89.81 tin, 4.26% silver, 4% Antimony, 1.19% lead and .74% copper which is a typical composition of pewter Nansen was the winner of the 1922 Nobel Peace Prize "for his leading role in the repatriation of prisoners of war, in international relief work and as the League of Nations' High Commissioner for refugees." He had a PhD in zoology, was a polar explorer and a 20th century Renaissance man. Brenner's mark/name on lower right above the Nansen name Smedley #20, Obtained 3/87.
