Died in Petrograd in 1918.Russian landscape painter. Initially studied at the Kiev Military High School, then at the Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts (1877-1881) under Mikhail Klodt. Dubovskoy left the Academy without completing the course. In 1886, he became a member of the Itinerants group, and at the end of the century became one of its most influential leaders. In 1898, he received the title of Academician "for his reputation in the arts." A staunch realist, Dubovskoy painted mainly landscapes, including ones in watercolor. Living mainly in Saint Petersburg, Dubovskoy traveled a lot around the Western Europe and Near East. Master of picturesque landscape, transitory phase from romanticism to symbolism, the artist was frequently applying to the winter motifs, having been keen to the quite, calm sites of the nature, bringing into those some national-romantic shades. Became the leading professor of the landscape studio of The Saint-Petersburg Academy of Fine Arts in 1911. The paintings of Nikolay Dubovskoy are contained at The State Tretyakov Gallery, The State Russian Museum, the Samara State Fine Arts Museum and many others.
