Pocket watch: important gold/enamel verge watch with striking mechanism and stone setting, Charles Cabrier London for the Russian market, ca. 1730, half quarter repeater: Ca. Ø55.5mm, ca. 143g, pair case, glazed protective case, covered with ray skin, exceptional quality, 18K gold, finest repoussé work quality, pierced, back with 4 cartouches with various putti motifs, central an 8-cornered enamel cartouche with blue engine turned enamel, face with 4 oval cartouches with engine turned enamel, pendant and opening button set with a red stone, probably garnet, bell, quality verge movement, vase pillars and 1/8h-repeater on bell, cock decorated with a lady's portrait, signed and numbered, enamel dial slightly restored, wonderful hands set with diamonds, intact. The case decoration is quite typical for commissioned work for the Russian market. Comparable pieces can be found in the exhibition of the Hermitage as well as in Moscow 'The Majesty of the Tsars: Treasures from the Kremlin Museum'. Very typical are the 4 cartouches on the front, which are mostly stone inlays. A very similar watch was part of the watch auction Dr. Crott Nov. 2018 lot 385 and sold for ca. 60,000€.
