Reverend Joseph Cowell is seated at a circular wooden table holding a book in his lap as he gazes out at the viewer. The painting comes with a letter from B. Altman and Co. New York dated 1976 stating it was purchased for $1500 and attributing the painting to Sir John Tenniel. Dimensions are: framed, 23 1/2 inches tall X 19 1/2 inches wide, 9.25 cm X 7.68 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Some inpainting to the nose and collar of jacket. The painting needs a good cleaning. Provenance: From a private VA collection.
