A set of eight Chinese pith paper paintings dating from the 19th century. All are matted, and all are framed except for one painting. The paintings depict the steps involved in rice production from gathering sets to plant up to dividing harvest up among workers. The paper is created by using the inner core of the Tetrapanax papyrifer tree which is laid flat and cut thin using a blade. Dimensions are: Frame size: 14 3/4 inches tall X 19 1/4 inches wide; 37.46 cm tall X 48.89 cm wide. Sight area: 7 3/4 inches tall X 12 1/2 inches wide; 19.68 cm tall X 31.75 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: All paintings with tears and loss. Provenance: Acquired during the mid-20th century.
