Painted on thin cream wove paper. Overall good to very good condition; a few minor edge tears and one longer one, 5/8" center right, not into the image; toning to the paper. Comment(s): Huszar’s work in any medium is very scarce. Artprice.com lists only 18 works in its drawings at auction category. A very similar work to our example is “Composition,” gouache on paper, 11 5/8” x 8 5/8,” 1919, sold for $35,325 (€31,200) at Art Consulting Auctioneers, Brno & Prague, Czech Republic, 06/09/2019, lot #24. Huszar was a Hungarian painter and designer who emigrated to The Netherlands in 1905 and became one of the founding members of the art movement De Stijl. In his adopted country he was influenced by Cubism and Futurism. There he met other influential artists including Piet Mondrian and Theo van Doesburg, both central figures in establishing the De Stijl movement with him in 1917.
