此十八子手持顶珠，间珠，为白玉质，玉质润泽；弟子珠选用十八颗绿色碧玺，晶体干净透彻，故又称为十八子。此器为握在手中念经计数的工具，属佛珠的一种。清代以来，因材质、色泽、雕工的精美，手串已成为文人祈福纳祥、把玩珍赏之物，也是互相馈赠的珍品。
