据《迦楼罗及诸天密言经》记载“迦楼罗者，天竺方言，唐云金翅鸟”。迦楼罗为佛的护法神鸟，同玉飞天、玉摩羯一起随佛教传入中国。此蜜蜡迦楼罗神鸟像为其较成熟的形象，人首鸟嘴，头戴莲瓣宝冠，眼内凹圆睁，嘴如鹰喙，呈忿怒像，身形亦为人形，双手施法印置于胸前，小肚圆凸露肚脐，双腿蹲坐于莲瓣之上，雕琢精细，神态威武，让人产生敬畏之感。蜜蜡其本是佛家宝贝，又为天然香料，不需熏燃，自然散香，红褐中夹杂游走的黄色纹理，配以迦楼罗的形象，更彰显把件的神圣之感。
