Ca. 100-300 AD. Roman. A beautiful glass bracelet with green and orange inserts on a black background; good condition, wearable. In contrast with the paucity of black glass vessels, a wide range of black glass jewellery is known to have been produced in large quantities, in particular during the late Roman period (Loeschke, S. (1925). Frühchristliche Werkstätte für Glas Schmuck in Trier. 337-360. Trierer Heimatbuch, Trier). Examples, particularly on the Continent, show that mostly children, and in particular female juveniles, wore black glass bracelets. Cf. Bayley, J., Freestone, I., & Jackson, C. (2015). Glass of the Roman World. Oxford And Philadelphia: Oxbow Books, 196. Size: L:10mm / W:95mm ; 48.6g. Provenance: Obtained on the London art market in the early 2000s; formerly from the collection of an English Family, by descents from the 1970s.
