Ca. 50-200 AD. Roman. A beautiful figurative terracotta oil lamp with a circular discus with a single ridge and an off-centre filling hole, undecorated shoulders, and a bow-shaped nozzle. The discus is decorated with the relief image of Ceres, the ancient Roman goddess of agriculture and fertility, holding a laurel wreath in her right hand and grain in her left hand. The base of the lamp bears an inscription with the markers name, 'CABINIA'. Good condition. Cf. Zhuravlev, D. (2002). Fire, light and light equipment in the Graeco-Roman world.
