Ca. 663-332 BC. Late Period. A small and pale blue-glazed faience cosmetic pot with a lid. It has a flat base and a round body which rises straight up to a slightly everted rim. A simple round lid rests on top. This would have been used by to contain various ground minerals, often black kohl, used for cosmetic purposes and to decorate the eyes. Makeup was worn by men and women alike, both for its aesthetic value as well as reasons like protecting the eyes from flies. Cosmetic pots like this were often interred in the tomb to allow the deceased to continue to look their best in the afterlife. Size: L:37mm / W:37mm ; 26g.
