Dealers in Works of Art & Antiques, Curios, Armor, Plate, China, Jewels, etc. Measurements: 14-3/8" H FABOLOUS, 18th C. Chinese Qing Dynasty Gilt bronze Bodhisattvas Buddha of Vajradhara in formal figure. The sculpture face in serene expression flanked by pendulous earlobes, the ushnisha topped with a knobs, with an attractive face, with the face slightly smiling, his ears have been traditionally pierced and elongated. Beautifully adorned with a five-pointed crown of gold, each point is emblazoned with a buddha of the five families. With gold jewels, earrings, necklaces, bracelets, anklets and a girdle, he wears an upper garment. Each end of jewelry ornament inlaid adorned with turquoise, lapis-lazuli stone and red coral. The hair on the head is piled in a topknot ushnisha crowned with an ornament and the earlobes are long and pierced - reflecting his youth spent as a prince. Adorning the middle of the forehead is a white dot urna between the eyebrows and the neck displays three curved lines. Extended across the right knee the fingertips of the hand touch the ground calling the personified goddess of the earth to witness the moment of perfect enlightenment. The left hand is placed in the lap in the mudra gesture of meditation supporting a black begging bowl - a gift from the Kings of the Four Directions. The right arm is bare and the left covered in the fashion of a Buddhist monk. With the two feet crossed in vajra posture, right over left upon a double lotus throne. All sets upon further gilt bronze double lotus throne emerging the aura-chakra nimbus and mandoria with elaborate reliefs of scrolling tendrils surrounding the body. Sets upon a multi leveled tall pedestal, auscipious carved and sic archaic mystical beast surrounded by the demountable rays of nimbus light emanate from the pedestal throne. They depict the Buddha about to reach enlightenment. Surrounded with Aura Chakra Nimbus and Mandoria surrounding the body, rays of nimbus light emanate from the body and the head is surrounded by aureole. This sculpture appears to be the perfect example, by any artistic tradition, both for technical precision and exquisite form. The proportions of the body are exact and the overall presence and beauty make this sculpture a precious artistic treasure. Underside with incised quatrefoil flori-form petal visvavajra mark surrounding the centralized DaiJi.
