A Busy Quay in a Dutch Town Indistinctly signed lower left Oil on millboard, 43 x 53.4 cm Note: Shortly after his 23rd birthday, Anthonie Waldorp decided to follow a career as a painter and became one of the precursors of the Hague School. Anthonie took an apprenticeship with the well-known stage scenery painter Joannes Breckenheimer jr. (1772-1856) in The Hague, who was also the tutor of the well-known painter Andreas Schelfhout. From circa 1833 Waldorp shared a studio with his colleages and friends Sam Verveer and Wijnand Nuijen in the 'Loterijzaal' on the Binnenhof in The Hague. The present lot shows an early work for which he may have been inspired by Nuijen. Please note: condition reports and additional photos are available upon request.
