Indian school, 20th century"Durga and Hindu trimurti".Mixed technique on canvas.Signed on the back.Measurements: 62 x 41 cm .; 72 x 52.5 cm. (Frame).The goddess Durga occupies the central place in this pictorial representation of Hindu divinities. In her eight arms she carries weapons and flowers that symbolize her combative power but also her protective and healing capacity. It is accompanied by the Hindu trimurti, occupying the upper part: Brahma, the god creator of the universe; Vishnu, the one who preserves the universe; Shiva, the god who destroys the universe at the end of the world. These gods represent respectively the cycles of creation, preservation and destruction of the universe. Shiva is represented with his consort, in Yab-yum or sexual union.
