A KAKEMONO IN THE STYLE OF KANO MOTONOBU (1476-1559). Japan, early Edo period, 94 × 32.5 cm. Ink on paper. Depicting five scholars excerting the four accomplishments (kinki shoga). Red 'Nobu' pot seal. Brocade mounting. Wood box, inscribed at inside. Signs of age, rod at bottom (jikugi) lost. Tusche auf Papier. Ausdrucksstarke Malerei mit fünf Gelehrten beim Ausüben der vier eleganten Künste: Zitter (jap. koto), Schach, Schreibkunst und Malerei. Daneben gesellt sich eine weitere Figur auf dem Boden sitzend dazu. Rotes 'Nobu'-Topfsiegel. Holzbox, auf Deckelinnenseite beschriftet. Brokatmontierung. Altersspuren, Rollstab (jikugi) verloren. Proveninez: Alte Privatsammlung, gemäss Erben erworben Mitte der 1950er Jahre.
