累丝又名“花作”或“花纹”，为金属工艺中最精巧者。它是将金银拉成丝，然后将其编成辫股或各种网状组织，再焊接于器物之上，谓之累丝。 本件金累丝作品工艺极其精细，累丝层次丰富，圆形环托上，塑造了诸多蝙蝠、鸳鸯蝴蝶、花卉、寿字纹，具有“蝶恋花”“五福捧寿”之吉祥寓意。整器立体丰富，视觉华丽。 立体的累丝作品制作最难，须事先经“堆灰”的手续，即把炭研成细末，用白芨草泡制的粘液调和作为塑料，塑成人物或走兽等所要制作的物象，然后再在上面进行累丝，用焊药焊连，之后置于火中把里面的炭模烧毁，即成立体中空剔透玲珑的精美艺术品。本件金头饰即为典型的立体累丝作品，繁复工艺让人叹为观止，反映出清代累丝工艺纤巧、秀丽、规整、精细至上的原则。
