A Chinese coral-ground porcelain tea caddy with a red wooden lid dating from the 18th century. The caddy is decorated on each side with Shou medallions bordered by ruyi on a Buddhist cross meander ground. The mouth has a ruyi border. Dimensions are: 5 1/2 inches tall X 3 inches wide, 14 cm X 7.6 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are cracks to the base and rim of the caddy, as well as a chip to the rim. The lid has areas of loss to the paint, and it is missing its finial. Provenance: From a private Connecticut collection. High resolution images can be found here.
