A Chinese carved jade plaque of a mythical beast dating from the Warring States period. Dimensions are: 1 1/4 inches tall X 3 1/2 inches wide, 3.2 cm X 8.9 cm. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There is age appropriate wear including very minor chipping. Provenance: From a private New York City collection. Purchased from a Hong Kong antique store in the late 1980s by the collector's father. Similar examples are housed in the collections of the Palace Museum in Beijing and the Freer Gallery of Art, accession number S2012.9.1255.1. Similar examples have been sold at Christie's New York on September 18, 2014, as lot 1216 and at Christie's London on July 13, 2006, as lot 365. High resolution images can be found here.
