Date of the work: 1982; Woodcut; 10x5,5 cm, 14x8,6 cm; About artist: Gnizdovsky Jacob (1915-1985). Outstanding Ukrainian and American artist, graphic artist, ceramist, art critic. He worked with oil paints, tempera, various solid dyes, engraved on wooden and metal boards, sculpted small forms. His creative legacy consists of hundreds of paintings and more than 300 engravings (woodcuts, etchings, linocuts). Two of his works - "Winter Landscape" and "Sunflower" adorned the office of US President John F. Kennedy in the White House. J. Gnizdowski's works are presented in numerous museums and private collections around the world, including the Library of Congress (Washington), the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), the Museum of Art of Philadelphia, and the collection of Nelson Rockefeller. In the 1990s, the artist's widow, Stefania Gnizdovska, donated a number of the master's works to museums in Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk and Chernivtsi. Several samples of his graphics are stored in the Borshchiv Regional Museum of Local Lore. Once the artist made an ex-libris of the Harvard College Ukrainian Seminar, part of which became the logo of the Ukrainian Scientific Institute of Harvard University. In the center of the logo is a stylized image of the Old Academic Building of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy after its reconstruction in the XVIII century.
