Thomas Sydenham Document Signed. One page, 7.75" x 10.25" (sight), no place; November 25, 1678. An indenture declaration between Thomas Sydenham and John Holland that reads in part: "Memorandum I Thomas Sydenham Dr. in Physick do hereby acknowledge & declare that the Sume of one hundred pounds to be paid and lent by mee to John Holland Yooman in and by one Indenture bearing even date herewith made between Sir Robert Clayton Knt. & John Morris Esquire of th’ one part and Mee the said Thomas Sydenham & the said John Holland of th’ other part was and is the propper moneys of the said Sir Robert Clayton & John Morris…" Signed, "Tho: Syndenham." Matted and framed with a typed transcription and engraving of Sydenham to an overall size of 28" x 15.5". Not examined outside of the frame. Thomas Sydenham (1624-1689) was an English physician who gave his name to Sydenham’s chorea and the Sydenham Society. His book, Observationes Medicae, became a standard medical text for over two centuries due to his emphasis on the detailed observations of patients which led to his posthumous moniker, ‘the English Hippocrates’. Sydenham enjoyed a close friendship with both John Locke and Robert Boyle. Condition: Foxed and gently rubbed. Two 1" closed tears near red wax seal remnants.
