William Osler Autograph Letter Signed. One page, 3.75" x 6.25" (sight), Oxford; March 11, 1917. This short letter to a Dr. Hertz, believed to be Sir Arthur Frederick Hertz, reads in full: "Many thanks for your letter. Some time after you so kindly wrote a friend wrote from N.Y. with an enclosure about Markus Herz and the prayer. After all it is not unworthy of the great Doctor Perplexorum." The prayer he references may be the Oath of Maimonides, an oath taken by physicians and pharmacists, which was first published by the physician Markus Herz in 1783. Matted and framed with a photograph of Osler to an overall size of 9.5" x 17". Not examined outside of the frame. COA from Charles Hamilton Autographs is included. Sir William Osler (1849-1919) was a Canadian physician who has been called the father of modern medicine. He helped establish the medical residency program and was an important figure in the early history of Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Condition: Lightly rubbed and toned from age. Smoothed folds. HID03101062020 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
