John Flamsteed Document Signed. Two pages of a bifolium, 7" x 10.75"; Vernon; July 3, 1706. A partly printed document concerning additional payment due to the Royal Crown for tonnage of cargo. Signed at the bottom on verso, "John Flamsteed MR." With an engraving of Flamsteed affixed to the integral page. John Flamsteed (1646-1719) was an English astronomer and the first Astronomer Royal. He made the first recorded observations of Uranus, which he mistook to be a star. He is also noted for preparing a 3,000 star catalog (Catalogus Brittanicus) and a star atlas (Atlas Coelestis) which were later published after his death. Condition: Flattened folds, with soiling throughout. Tightly trimmed along bottom margin with a bit of paper loss not affecting any words. Stray foxing. Filing docket on verso, where there is soiling and paper repairs at the lower fold. Previous dealer's code and pricing in pencil on verso.
