George S. Patton Typed Letter Signed. One page, 8" x 10", [Metz, France]; September 30, 1944. Written at the beginning of the Battle of Metz when Patton's Third U.S. Army was hampered by heavy rains. Composed on Third U.S. Army Headquarters, Office of the Commanding General stationery and addressed to a D.H. Knowlton, Postmaster of S. Hamilton, Massachusetts. It reads in full: "Thank you very much for your nice note of September 11 which just reached me. I am always happy to hear from you and get glances of the family.
