Caroline Fillmore Autograph Letter Signed. Four pages of a bifolium, 4.5" x 7", Clifton Springs; September 22, 1877. Addressed to a Mrs. Delia Avery on mourning stationery. In this letter, Caroline discusses her search for a servant and writes that she will inform Mrs. Avery if she decides to hire an acquaintance of hers. A note on the transmittal cover, presumably in Mrs. Avery's hand, reads "about Maggie." The letter reads in part: "...so if this girl is willing to wait...I am sure not over a month & I can know what she will expect for wages & if she can & will be willing to devote herself to me and do it kindly, I shall then know what to do..." Signed, "C. C. Fillmore." Condition: Separated along integral fold. Heavy edgewear, including two 1.25" closed tears and several smaller ones measuring approximately .25".
