The original letter is addressed to the Governor of Virginia, John Letcher, and endorses the application of Reverend P. T. August to an unnamed appointment. It is endorsed by Hill on the bottom of the first page. It reads in full: "I cordially endorse the above – and request it may be done." Signed, "A P Hill / Col 4th Inf."
