Pierre G.T. Beauregard Twice Signed Receipt. One page, 8" x 7.25", Greensboro; April 19, 1865. Written just days before General Johnston’s surrender to General Sherman. Order of march, in pencil, for the return of South Carolina troops to their homes to Brigadier General I. St. John, Commissary General at Charlotte, North Carolina. It reads in full: "In the movement hence, the South Carolina troops will proceed to Columbus via Charlotte and Chester. The other forces via Charlotte N.C. Yorkville, Union, Lawrenceville and Abbeville So. Ca. and Washington Geo. The Chief Commissary of this Army will inform you where and in what quantity’s subsistence will be required." Signed, "G.T. Beauregard." Signed and docketed on verso. Condition: Ink soiling on verso which has bled through to recto. Occasional pinhole, Pencil notation on recto. Smoothed folds.
