George Taylor Partial Document Signed. One partial page, 11.5" x 1.5", [Northampton]; [November 27, 1770]. A partial document with original paper seal attached, that was removed from a larger document. It reads in full: "In witness whereof, I have set my hand & seal the Day & Year above written." Signed, "Geo. Taylor." A copy of the complete document is included with the lot. George Taylor (circa 1716-1781) was an ironsmith by trade and secured a commission with the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety to produce cannon balls for the war effort. A delegate to the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence, he was commissioned a colonel in the Pennsylvania Militia in 1775 and one of his first duties as a congressman was to sign the Declaration of Independence. His signature is considered the third rarest of the signers of the Declaration of Independence. Condition: Signature is light. Rubbed and toned.
