[Revolutionary War]. John Hancock Docketed Letter While Governor of Massachusetts. One page of a bifolium, 7.75" x 9", Boston, Massachusetts; February 14, 1783. A secretarial letter where Hancock encourages his colleagues to send delegates to a convention in Hartford to formulate a New England tax code. His docketing on verso reads in full: "Letters to the Governors of the States of Rhd Island Connecticut & New York also Presdt of New Hampshire State - February 14, 1783." The letter reads in part: "...I have the Honor to inclose your Excellency a Resolution passed by them on the 13th Instant for the purpose of appointing Delegates to meet in Convention at Hartford...on the last Wednesday of April next to confer on the Necessity of adopting such a General and uniform System of Taxation by Impost and Excise."
