Late Ming Dynasty The rectangular box with straight sides and flat cover carved with three scholars examining a scroll beside a deer, a fourth standing nearby accompanied by an attendant carrying a wrapped guqin, all beneath wutong trees, banana plants, rocks and clouds reserved on a diaper band, the sides with camellia, the interior lacquered black, fitted box. 14cm (5 1/2in) wide.
