A. studied at a Paris arts and crafts school 1955-57 until an encounter with Yves Klein gave him a decisive momentum for his art. He began with monochrome red surfaces, since 1960 with nail objects, later fire became the most important medium. A. studierte 1955-57 an einer Kunstgewerbeschule in Paris, bis eine Begegnung mit Yves Klein 1957 seiner Kunst einen entscheidenden Anstoß gab. Er begann mit monochrom roten Flächen, ab 1960 mit Nagelbildern, später wurde Feuer des beherrschende Element seiner Kunst. Dabei schuf er Werke aus Streichhölzern und Feuerwerkskörpern, später dehnte er die Brandereignisse in den Raum aus. Er stellte u.a. 1977 auf der Documenta aus.
