君子贵玉，世人常以羊脂白玉珍稀难求，然则，黄玉者更有过之。黄玉不仅材料难得，其颜色恰好契合“黄为正”的传统美学思想，明末高濂着《玉说荟刊．燕闲清赏笺．论古玉器》曰：“黄为中色，且不易得，以白为偏色，时亦有之，故而令人贱黄而贵白，以见少也”。
此方瓶以整料黄玉雕成，仿古式风格，瓶束颈，颈部以溜剪弧腹，底部急敛，下承高束腰外撇圈足。颈部颈部饰瑞兽纹，腹部饰饕餮纹，压地隐起技法满饰具有青铜古彝器风韵的兽面纹，兽面狰狞威凛，惟气韵典雅，具典型乾隆仿古风格。本品玉色均一，色正而娇，柔润如脂，确属古雅之黄，况其治艺精绝繁柔，堪称乾隆宫廷玉作的精品。
