The twelfth year of Wanli period, Ming dynasty. Buddha glazed in tan with a blue hair and is sitting on a pedestal making a teaching gesture. Back plate is glazed in brown and green and contains calligraphy surrounded by ruyi clouds, reverse is unfinished. Dimensions: Overall: 16 5/8 inches tall X 8 inches wide; 42.2 cm tall X 23 cm wide. Buddha: 9 inches tall X 6 inches wide; 22.9 cm tall X 15.3 cm wide. All sizes are approximate. Condition: Reverse side of pedestal and back have not been glazed. Firing imperfections on all three pieces. Provenance: From a private collection in Lorton, Virginia. The collector has been restoring antiques for over 50 years in the Washington, D.C. area.
