A cased bronze plaque from the international exhibition 'The Children's World' held in St. Petersburg, Russia, in 1903 and 1904. The exterior of the case reads: "St. Petersburg Gewidmet Vom Lande Niederosterreich." The engraving is continued in the plaque: "Zur Erinnerung an Die Ausstellung DIE KINDERWELT St. Petersburg 1903 vom Lande Niederoesterreich." Translated roughly as "Dedicated (or gifted) by the State of Lower Austria in remembrance of the exhibition 'The Children's World' St. Petersburg 1903." The plaque was sculpted by Franz Klug (Austrian, active 19th - early 20th century). Klug also did artwork for the interior of Max Hegele's St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery Church in Vienna. Dimensions: plaque- 7 5/8 inches tall X 9 inches wide; 19.4 cm tall X 22.9 cm wide. Weight: 1100 grams. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The plaque is in overall good condition. The box and backing of the plaque have general age wear. Provenance: From a collection in Northern Virginia.
