A George III Old Sheffield Silver Plate tankard, Sheffield circa 1770 by Tudor and Leader Tapering cylindrical form upon a spreading cavetto foot, central applied girdle. The C scroll handle with heart shaped terminal, the double domed lid raised by a pressed acanthus scroll thumbpiece with moulded and shaped hinge. The front with contemporaneous engraved initials JL in flourished cursive script, decoratively encircled, the handle also engraved with initials JBM in cursive script. Wooden inset underside lined with baize. Marked with pseudo marks to side of handle, vertical seam to back.
