A George IV sterling silver propelling Bramah dip pen and pencil, London 1823 by Sampson Mordan (1790-1843, reg. June 1823) Of cylindrical from with engine turned decoration, the upper section with a rectangular cartouche engraved with a presentation inscription reading “Presented by the members of the Pamphlet Society to the friend and secretary William Taylor Esq.” Three chased foliate section, one propelling to reveal a dip pen section, the other to reveal a propelling steel section. Marked to the base terminal, the dip pen stamped ‘Mordan Improv’d’ and the other section stamped M. Length (closed) – 10.8 cm / 4.25 inches Length (fully extended) – 17 cm / 6.6 inches Weight – 27 grams / 0.87 ozt Mordan entered a partnership with Gabriel Riddle and thus registered a new mark in April 1824, which was dissolved in 1839.
